Graphic specialist tasks in two EU funded projects on developing East and North Finland’s industrial transition during 2018–2021. Both of the projects were a collaborative effort between the seven regions of East and North Finland and administered by the Regional Council of Lapland.

The pilot project was called Regions in Industrial Transition, or more familiarly known to it’s Finnish acronym, ELMO. This first phase of the collaboration produced the East and North Finland in Industrial Transition Smart Specialisation strategy 2019–2023. My role in this project was to build the visual vocabulary for the smart specialisation strategy by utilising infographics and other graphic forms of narrative. I also designed the layout of the printed and digital strategy publication, and in addition, acted as one of the editors of the strategy as well. Other tasks in the project included designing different print products for the EU events, where East and North Finland and its smart specialisation work was promoted.

The second phase, East and North Finland Industrial Transition – From Strategy to Practise (2019–2021) was a joint coordination project, where the smart specialisation strategy was put into use in order to support industries, growth and employment in the area. The aim of the project was to create a cluster development model based on the existing network of innovation platforms in the area, which will provide support services to SME´s.

The coordination project also developed common communication practices for East and North Finland and organised events to support interregional collaboration between the relevant stakeholders. My tasks in this project included designing of visual identity and graphic guidelines for the East and North Finland area, development of the project’s website and a search engine tool for innovation platforms in the area, as well as designing various static & interactive infographics and layouts for digital publications.
